MOVIES THAT INSPIRED US

Image
HEY GUYSSSS TODAY WE’RE GONNA TALK ABOUT MOVIES AND SHOWS THAT INSPIRED USSS!!!      Several movies and TV shows have served as inspiration for our project, with elements loosely based on the premise of "21 Jump Street." The original "21 Jump Street" television series, which combines humor and undercover police work in a high school setting, is one major influence. We appreciate how the program strikes a mix between lighter and heavier subjects, providing a novel and enjoyable interpretation of the crime procedural genre. In addition, the humorous tone and compelling character dynamics of our project are influenced by the "21 Jump Street" movie adaptions starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill.      The "Superbad" movie, which is renowned for its crude humor and charming depiction of adolescent friendships, is another source of energy. We like how "Superbad" delivers belly-laugh-inducing moments while capturing the awkwardness and genuin...

What has helped us out so far?

HEY GUYSSS…TODAY I’M GOING TO DISCUSS WHAT HAS HELPED ME THROUGH THE EDITING PROCESS       While I don't have access to Instagram or TikTok for inspiration, I've found YouTube and Pinterest to be invaluable resources for creative ideas and inspiration. I've found a ton of editing courses, filmmaker vlogs, and behind-the-scenes films on YouTube that provide insights into various editing styles and processes. YouTube has proven to be an invaluable source of inspiration for anything from learning sophisticated editing techniques to exploring novel ways to visual storytelling.      Pinterest has also proven to be an excellent resource for finding mood boards, visual aids, and carefully curated lists of filmmaking advice. I've discovered that reading through different forums devoted to storytelling, cinematography, and film editing may inspire me and provide me with ideas for my own work. Using these internet resources, I've managed to  maintain ...

HOW WE LEARNED TO EDITTTT

Image
HEEYYY GUYYYSSS TODAY WE’RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT HOW WE LEARNED WHAT WE LEARNED!!!      We're using a range of materials catered to our individual requirements and interests in order to acquire editing tips and improve our abilities. Online classes and lessons on sites like YouTube are a valuable resource. As well as some of the stuff that Mrs. Woz puts on canvas. These platforms provide an abundance of tutorials on a variety of editing methods, software tricks, and artistic workflows.      By asking for and receiving comments on our work, we can improve our editing skills and obtain important insights. We're always broadening our editing skills and aiming for perfection in our profession by combining self-directed study with help from others.

How are things going?

Image
HEY GUYSSSSSSS…TODAY WERE GOING TO TALK ABOUT HOW THINGS ARE GOING WITH OUR PROJECT!!!        We're actively working to put the final touches on every part of production as we get closer to the end of our project. Our attention is mostly on the editing phase, where we carefully adjust every scene to guarantee narrative continuity. OH SPEAKING OF THAT…We decided to change our title sequence to a street sign because that makes more sense with the name (48th court). To improve the entire viewing experience, this entails closely examining the material, making necessary edit adjustments, and adding both visual and sound effects.      Our team's commitment and cooperation have carried us through the unavoidable difficulties and roadblocks. We've stayed dedicated to providing a top-notch final product, and every day that goes by brings us one step closer to realizing that goal.  We're eager to share our movie opener with you as it approaches complet...

WHERE WE ATTTT

Image
HEEYYYY GUUUYYYSSSSSSS…TODAY I’M GONNA TELL YOU ABOUT WHERE WE ARE IN OUR MOVIE OPENER!!!     The project is moving through the production stages without many problems. After filming for the second time, everything went pretty smoothly, and now we are deep into the editing phase and I am constantly asking. Makayla for updates on her progress (she set a deadline to be completely finished by Sunday), carefully reworking every scene to make sure it makes sense and has impact. Our group has worked incredibly hard to realize our creative vision, exhibiting great teamwork and devotion. Even though there have been several difficulties, such logistical roadblocks and technological hiccups, we kept our heads up and kept going.      We have consistently asked peers and mentors for their opinions and ideas along the way, using their knowledge to improve the project's narrative and aesthetics. We have been able to address any areas that require improvement and optimize the ...

HELLLLLLOOOO GUUUYYSSSSSS…TODAY WE’RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT WHAT I WANT.      If I had a major movie production budget, I would seize the opportunity to elevate every aspect of the filmmaking process. Firstly, I would get Leonardo DiCaprio in our movie opener because, I LOVE HIM. Collaborating with such esteemed actors would not only enhance the quality of the film but also attract a broader audience base. Additionally, I would prioritize dynamic and diverse costumes, ensuring that each character's wardrobe reflects their personality and adds visual interest to the screen.      In terms of setting and location, I would spare no expense in securing a picturesque backdrop for our film. We would shoot at one of those rich people and fancy schools that all these unrealistic highschool movies are shot in to make the film look more established . Moreover, I would invest in top-of-the-line equipment for lighting, sound, and editing, enabling our team to achieve pro...

🔦Specific camera angles and shots 🔦

Image
HELLLLOOOO GUUYYSSS TODAY WE’RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT CAMERA SHOTS AND ANGLES!!!      Soooo… we purposefully use a variety of camera angles and viewpoints to improve storytelling and give the story value. For example, wide shots are used to create the hectic and vibrant feel of a typical high school environment when scenes take place in busy halls or bustling classrooms. This decision highlights the dynamic and relatable quality of the characters' experiences while simultaneously drawing the viewer into the lively energy of the setting. Furthermore, close-up shots are used to provide intimate glimpses into the motivations and emotions of the characters during pivotal times of interaction. These close-up pictures enhance character development by skillfully capturing the subtleties of interpersonal relationships through the focus on facial expressions and body language. Additionally, we use low-angle images in scenes with authority  to emphasize their power and influence...

😈Editing post 2😈

Image
HEEEEYYYY GUYYSSSSSSSS…TODAY WERE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT EDITING AGAIN!!!           The editing phase of our film has been a labor-intensive process, consuming a significant amount of time as we meticulously refine each scene to align with our creative vision. We've dedicated countless hours to scrutinizing every frame, from adjusting color grading to fine-tuning audio levels, to ensure a seamless viewing experience. Our core team of Makayla, Fernando, and myself has spearheaded this effort, collaborating closely to make critical decisions and implement changes that elevate the overall quality of our film. With Makayla doing the bulk of the editing.     As we approach the final stages of editing, we're considering additional filming to address any lingering gaps or areas for improvement. This may involve reshooting specific scenes to enhance performance or capturing supplementary footage to enhance the narrative depth of our film. By remai...

Day 2 of shootingggggggg

Image
HELLLOOOOOO THIS IS OUR SECOND DAY OF FILMINGGGGGG… But this post is not made on the same day, as we actually had our second day of filming on 3/20/24     ANYWAYSSS …We concentrated on getting all of the school scenes for our movie on the second day of filming. This featured sequences where Fernando and I entered the school and made our way to the JROTC room. In order to maximize the resources at our disposal and make sure that our filming wouldn't interfere with other courses, we chose to shoot during fourth period at the school. Makayla was here too, working alongside Fernando and myself to make sure everything went as planned. To aid with challenging photos, we also called in our friends Marcos, Shaun, and Niah, who provided an additional level of support and knowledge to our production.      Dealing with the locked school doors was one of the biggest obstacles we had to overcome during the shoot. Given that throughout the day the doors are usually locked. ...

😈😼Updated story board😼😈

Image
HEEYYYYYYYYY GUYSSSSSS soooooo basically today were gonna talk about our updated storyboard!!!      This time around, we've added more scenes and specific shots, including a menacing close-up of Chief as he looks down at his desk. We've paid close attention to different angles and lighting setups for each shot, aiming to enhance the visual impact of our opening sequence. While some elements from the original storyboard remain, we've also made adjustments to angles and perspectives to keep things fresh.      One noticeable change is at the beginning of the storyboard, where we've kept the same sequence but from a different angle. This decision offers a wider shot and a unique perspective compared to typical movie openings. Additionally, we've strategically placed the credits on the wall and lower parts of the screen in the introduction scene, adding to the visual storytelling of our opener. Here’s the final product:

🤭Representation in our filmmmmm🤭

Image
HEYYYYY GUYYYYSSSSS…TODAY WE’RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT REPRESENTATION…      Within our film, we aimed to represent a diverse range of characters, reflecting the richness and complexity of society and our school. As the movie opener takes place in a school setting.  We strive to portray individuals from various backgrounds, cultures, and experiences, ensuring that our cast is inclusive and representative of the world we live in. (I am mixed of Bahamian and Russian, and Fernando is Ecuadorian) Our goal is to avoid falling into stereotypes and instead present characters as multifaceted individuals with depth and nuance. By doing so, we hope to challenge traditional notions of representation and offer a more authentic and inclusive portrayal of humanity.      To challenge representation within our film, we actively seek to subvert stereotypes and tropes commonly associated with certain groups. We approach each character with care and consideration, avoiding l...

😱SAVED BY THE BELL😱

Hey Guysssssssss sooooooooo today in class we were all ready to dive into a quiz on camera shots and angles. I even put in some serious study time the night before, gearing up for the challenge. BUT, our plans took an unexpected turn when our teacher announced that she had rescheduled the test for Thursday—a day when I won't be in school. Talk about a coincidence! Thankfully, my classmates Makayla, Fernando, and I quickly rallied together to come up with a plan. We decided to take the quiz during fourth period on Wednesday, ensuring that we don't miss out on the chance to show off our knowledge of cinematography.       Adapting to last-minute changes like this is all part of the learning process. While it's frustrating at first, it's important to stay flexible and find creative solutions. This experience serves as a reminder of the importance of resilience and teamwork in navigating academic challenges. So, here's to rolling with the punche...

🤭Group Dynamics🤭

Image
HEY GUYSSSSS TODAY WERE GONNA TALK ABOUT THE DYNAMICS OF OUR GROUP  Our group dynamics have been relatively positive, fostering collaboration and productivity. Through regular communication channels and effective delegation of tasks, each team member has had the opportunity to contribute their skills and ideas towards the project's success. While occasional disagreements and differing opinions are inevitable in any group endeavor, our team has managed to navigate these challenges constructively, prioritizing open dialogue and compromise to reach consensus on key decisions. Moreover, the diverse range of perspectives within the group has enriched our discussions and fueled creativity, allowing us to explore various approaches and solutions to different aspects of the project.      Overall, the majority of team members have been actively engaged and committed to their assigned roles, ensuring that progress is made consistently and deadlines are met. While there have be...

😁EXAM PRACTICE😁

HEYYYY GUYYYYYYSSSS TODAY I’m gong to talk about what we did in class!!!      SO TODAY…we embarked on an insightful analysis of the opening sequence of "The Sopranos," a critically acclaimed television series renowned for its intricate storytelling and cinematic style. As part of our preparation for the AICE exam, we meticulously examined the first five minutes of the pilot episode, deconstructing the various elements of filmmaking employed to establish tone, theme, and character dynamics. We scrutinized the camera movements, noting the use of tracking shots and close-ups to immerse viewers in the world of the protagonist, Tony Soprano, while also emphasizing key details and character interactions.      Furthermore, we delved into the editing techniques utilized to enhance pacing and build tension, dissecting the seamless transitions and rhythmic cuts that propelled the narrative forward with precision. Our analysis extended to the mise en scène, wher...

🔦💡LIGHTING💡🔦

Image
HEYYYYYYYYYY…Welcome back!!!!! Today we’re gonna be talking about the lighting that we used in our project!!!       48th court is set in a high school, so we've opted for natural lighting supplemented with some artificial lighting (there isn’t much we can do about the school lights) to enhance scenes as needed. We're primarily using high key lighting to keep the mood upbeat and cheerful, reflecting the overall tone of a comedy. Natural lighting helps to create a sense of authenticity and immersion, especially in a high school setting, while the artificial lighting adds depth and ensures consistent lighting conditions throughout different scenes.     Our choice of lighting style is a deliberate one, aimed at enhancing the comedic elements of the narrative and maintaining a visually appealing aesthetic. However, if we had a bigger budget or more access to equipment, we might consider incorporating more sophisticated lighting techniques such as three-point lig...

✍️EDITING✍️

Image
WELCOME BACKKKKKKKK…TODAY WERE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT EDITINGGGGGG!!!!!!     For our video editing, we relied on iMovie as our primary software due to its versatility and robust feature set. Throughout the editing process, we strategically applied a range of video effects to enhance the visual narrative, including color grading to establish mood, visual effects to add flair or realism, and motion graphics to inject dynamic elements. These effects were selected and fine-tuned to align with the project's overarching aesthetic and storytelling goals, ensuring a cohesive and engaging viewing experience for the audience.      In terms of video transitions, we adopted a balanced approach, incorporating both traditional cuts and more creative transitions like fades, wipes, and dynamic effects. Each transition was carefully chosen to maintain visual flow and coherence between scenes while also contributing to the overall style and atmosphere of the project. Despite e...

🌟TITLE SEQUENCES🌟

HEYYYYYY GUYYYSSSSS…Welcome Back!!!  Today we’re going to be talking about title sequences!!!!     So f or 48th Court, the making of the title sequence involved careful consideration of font, colors, style, and content to capture the essence of the show while infusing humor and energy. Our group brainstormed several options and debated their merits before arriving at a final decision. Here are the initial five options we considered: Option 1: Bold and Playful Font: This option featured a bold, playful font with exaggerated letters to convey the comedic tone of the series. Colors were vibrant and eye-catching, with elements of red and blue to evoke a high school vibe. Option 2: Retro Style: This option took inspiration from 80s/90s title sequences, with retro fonts and graphics reminiscent of classic high school comedies. Colors were warm and nostalgic, with a hint of orange and blue for added flair. Option 3: Cartoonish Illustrations: This option incorporated cartoonis...
