🏹The HUNGRY gamessssss 🏹

 HELLLOOOOOO KRAZZZYYY KIDZZZZZ…

It’s me again. 🥹

I.

     Am.

            Back…

Anywayssssss…if you couldn’t already tell, today I’m going to be talking about the HUNGER GAMES, now for those of you who live under a rock. The hunger games was originally a book trilogy, but now there are like 5 movie adaptations.

Moving on…The Hunger Games trilogy is set in the dystopian, post-apocalyptic republic of Panem, which is located in North America, in an undefined future. The nation is made up of an affluent Capitol city situated in the Rocky Mountains, that is encircled by twelve (originally thirteen) impoverished districts that are under the jurisdiction of the Capitol. The districts are in varied levels of poverty, despite the Capitol's extravagant wealth and cutting-edge technology. The protagonist and narrator of the series, Katniss Everdeen, resides in District 12, the poorest area of Panem, where famine is a common cause of death. A boy and a girl from each of the twelve surviving districts, between the ages of 12 and 13, were sent as punishment for a previous revolt against the Capitol (known as the "Dark Days"), in which District 13 was destroyed. But Basically Katniss and Peta were chosen to represent District 12 and then they both win the Hunger games and cause a whole other rebellion to start and then they fall in love and blah blah blah.

Thats not what were here for. Although its good to have some context behind what I’m going to say…But today were gonna be looking at Mise en sene, basically what you see in the scene and its importance to the story, so I’m going to show you 5 different scenes and the Mise en scen involved…

~ Scene 1 ~

As you can already tell from common sense that this scene is very dark, and you can barely see anything which hints to the fact that it is taking place outside and at night, now its not a 100% guarantee but im sure that the cast wasn’t actually in this location and that they were in a studio with a green screen to get the effect of the decaying buildings, as this does take place in District 12, a coal mining district, so it makes secnce to have a mine added into the scenery. Adding on to that, because the majority of the citizens of district 12 work in the mines, they are obviously going to be dirty and have raggity clothes, which is shown quite well when you look closely at their costume choices. While this photo isn’t the best quality, some of the cast can be seen carrying axes and other tools used for mining coal, by using these props you can already tell that these characters are coming home from a long day at work. And finally a wide shot is used, but the only things visible are the people, which is what the scene is focusing on, which explains the tight framing.

~ Scene 2 ~

This scene doesn’t have a bunch of stuff going on, but I just want to point out the costume choice. The use of only black, a color which signifys death, is extremely important. As Katniss is about to execute President snow, and then tries to kill herself. But the irony about it is that neither of those two things end up happening. Which relates to a common theme of the story, to expect the unexpected. Another thing about this shot is the location that it takes place in, I belive that this is taking place in a studio, but never the less, President Snow is shown standing on a pedestal which can show his sense of superiority towards others. The scenery is also important because it shows the extravagance of the capital and how different it is compared to the districts. The framing of the shot emphasizes Katniss is likeliness to shoot President Snow, with her bow and arrow, which is a prop that is used commonly throughout the films, and is heavily associated with Katniss.

~ Scene 3 ~

Just by looking at the scene, you can already tell how rich the capital is because of the use of an expensive looking rug, and the other furniture that is used in the scene as well as the fact that everything looks clean and in its place. Another thing giving away the capitals abundance of resources is that the characters are dressed more nicely in this scene, compared to how they are dressed in the normal districts. The lighting is also brighter. And the way that the shot is framed, it allows the viewer to get a grasp of the entire room and it’s extravagance.

~ Scene 4 ~

The diversity in costumes in the scene is really important because as the camera looks over Effie’s shoulder. You can tell that she’s wearing a white powdered wig, and a very bright colored dress but when you compare her to the citizens of district 12 and they’re all wearing monocolor clothing with blues blacks, and grays. And the peacekeepers are wearing straight white with black belts. It really sets apart the different classes of society. Another thing about the same is the framing, as it really sets a part in the society by having a camera look over Effie’s shoulder, looking down upon the citizens of district 12, and the peacekeepers separating the citizens. The location and it could’ve been shot and could either be in a studio or in an actual field although it’s probably easier to have it in a studio with a green screen. The peacekeepers props show their dominance over the district citizens as you can see they are carrying weapons.

~ Scene 5 ~

The first thing I would like to point out is the difference in location compared from Katniss to the game makers and the judges, because the judges end game makers are in a secluded area that is colorful, and illuminated and Katniss and the other contestants who’ve gone through this room are forced to be in an area that is dark dull, and daunting. This really shows the capitals superiority over the districts. There are not much props in the scene, but that shows that the contestants go in alone with nothing but their wits and what they’re given. The difference in costume between Katniss and the judges is insane. As Katniss is wearing what appears to be some sort of compression suit, and the judges are wearing suits, literal suits. The scene was most likely shot in a studio with a green screen. In fact, the characters may not have even been in the same room.

Overall, the hunger games is a really good movie and the creators are gonna be really use me some seen very well and I’m glad that I got the chance to review it today 😁
